April brought three new wines to the Hocking Hills Winery tasting room! We're excited to announce these new releases 2022 Brianna, 2021 Ohio Pinot Noir, and 2022 La Cresent. In this article we explore these award winning wines a bit more, sharing tasting notes, and insight from our winemaker!
2022 Brianna
Nose: Apricot, ginger, pineapple, peach, wet stone
Pallet: Starfruit, dried mango, minerality
Medals: Gold Medals at San Francisco Chronicle and American Fine Wine Society Invitational!
Winemaker Notes: Hocking Hills Winery Brianna is a light and refreshing white wine, with vibrant tropical and stone fruit flavors finishing with a touch of minerality. Brianna is a cold-climate white grape variety bred as a cross of Vitis riparia x Vitis labrusca by Elmer Swenson in 1983 and released in 2001.
Fun Fact: Brianna is usually the first grape to ripen in our vineyard, and this release is Assistant Winemaker, Maya’s, first solo winemaking endeavor!
2021 Ohio Pinot Noir
Nose: Cinnamon, damp earth, potting soil, tart cherry, dried oregano
Pallet: Bright cherries, craisins, eucalyptus, forest floor
Medals: Silver at Harvest Terroir Challenge in Winsor, Ca.!
Winemaker Notes: Our take on a Willamette style pinot with hints of earth and red fruits. This is our first wine to be aged in French oak barrels. The fruit hails from the Grand River valley in Ohio, located within the latitude of the Pinot Belt. The latitude known for growing great Pinot running from Burgundy, France all the way to Willamette, Oregon.
2022 La Cresent
Nose: Apricot, pineapple, floral,
Pallet: Kumquats, tangerine, kiwi
Medals: Double Gold Medal at the American Fine Wine Society Invitational!
Winemaker Notes: Our La Cresent is luscious and brilliantly balanced with a floral nose and bright bursts of pineapple and tangerine. La Crescent is a light-skinned hybrid grape variety developed by the University of Minnesota and released in 2002. Hocking Hills Winery La Cresent is a dry, acid-driven, white wine that still has a lush and thick mouthfeel. The best of both worlds, in your face floral and tropical, while still retaining bright acidity and citrus characteristics. A lovely honey note marries everything together. Not a wine you typically see in a dry style. Our future release of Estate La Crescent Icedwine will be a perfect counterpoint as a sweet example.
All these wines are now pouring in the tasting room and available for online purchase.
Stay tuned to our social media and this blog for more new wine release coming in May and June! Cheers!
